@xjpnfanx, schools in the US don't teach about him, but they should. Some scientists have estimated that as many as 1 in every 200 people could be a direct descendant of Genghis Khan (he was known for having his way with the women in almost every land he conquered). Is it really that high? I doubt it, but it wouldn't surprise me.

He deserves more study - he controlled the largest empire in history, if only for a short time and with the loosest definition of 'control' - from Poland to the furthest tip of China, at its height. There are some fantastic books and videos on the subject, definitely worth looking up.

I lov chinese fireworks esp in new years. I also enjoy fireworks in india. My mom lived there for a short amound of time 2 come to canada and she said that there were weddings almost everyday and people used to dance and sing till morn.Lol, n she was terrified of the fireworks-she said they were dangerous but beautiful.frieworks here in america/canada r pretty dull. I went to niagra falls n it was suckish for new years--but i guess thats pretty biased of me since i only see fireworks at 3 places

@AdamGillett seriously?....wow. ....lol, genghis khan is everywhere...i recently watched a movie called Blood and Bones(awesome action movie) and it quoted him in the end. Watched a k-drama....n they were singing a song called Genghis khan..n da list goes on. How sad i dont really no that much bout his history and he's apart of my country's history(afg) n my ancestors r mongolian.

well. all buildings in china are made by bricks, you can hardly hear anything. in western, you can hear a pin drop or farb at night because everything is made of thin wood.

Well, technically Genghis Khan was responsible for fireworks, having gathered technologies from the Middle East, Central Asia, China and even Japan. They were developed by a vast grouping of experimental 'scientists' in China, yes, but they owe a lot to the Mongols and the Arab world.

But hey... you can't compare 300 million people to 1.3 billion people. Chinese new year? ring a bell?! it's the biggest event of all events! it's like christmas and thanksgiving + 4th of july altogether! and not that's not enough but we even celebrate western events (well some...) so clearly... we use fireworks as much as we export them... you can't say otherwise! i hear like over 50 bangs everyday here in hunan province. and that's just central china.. imagine shanghai. 20 million ppl.

Obviously, America does not need to be the Candidate for my comparison, but the 4th of July is a very well known holiday, thus the reason behind my choice.

Those are nothing but recreational fireworks, which kids and family sets off, much like the families in America. On the 4th of july, huge fireworks such as the ones in the video are set off, which releases much much more pollution. I have lived in China for well over half my life, and I have a number of relatives still residing in China whom I visit regularly. I believe I am perfectly familiar with the ways of my home country.

... although at funerals there's pretty much nothing to celebrate about they still use crackers as an symbol... and yes, you're absolutely right that fireworks aren't the reason why china's air is so polluted, no doubt at all. coal plants, factories and construction zones are the main reasons. seriously, did you see any difference during post-world war 2? it's all because china is stlll developing. sometimes you get clear weather and sometimes not.

Lol. Hey pal, to be honest, you should come here to China sometime because you said "Americans set off much more fireworks". They clearly don't. I mean don't take this wrong, America sure does badass movies and stuff like that but you haven't seen fireworks in China yet... I'm sitting here right now in China at what ? Like 3:41 AM in the morning and I hear fireworks almost everyday. They don't just celebrate at new year or so, they celebrate at wedding, even funeral...

China did invent fireworks around the same time they invented gunpowder, and for that, I am proud of my nation. But that's another matter. My point is, fireworks are not the reason why China's air is so polluted. Americans sets off much more fireworks, yet the air in America is perfectly fine. Hopefully this clears up some misunderstandings. Next time, if you bring yourself to read the post that a person responded to, perhaps it would cause you less confusion.
